Passports & Visas
Before entering or leaving Kazakhstan, all passengers must go through immigration control. Please have your passport, visa (if required), and boarding pass ready for inspection.
What to know:
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your travel date.
Some nationalities may require a visa to enter Kazakhstan. Check entry requirements in advance through your airline or the official Kazakhstan visa portal.
Electronic visas (e-Visa) should be printed or saved on your phone for presentation.
If you are transiting, verify whether you must clear immigration or can stay in the international transit area.
Children and infants must also have valid identification and travel documents.
Security screening
After check-in and baggage drop-off, proceed to the security checkpoint. Here, your hand baggage and personal items will be X-rayed, and you’ll pass through a body scanner or metal detector.
Here’s what happens:
Place laptops, tablets, and large electronics in separate trays when asked.
Remove outerwear, belts, and high shoes if requested.
Liquids, gels, and aerosols must be in containers of 100 ml or less, placed together in a 1 L transparent resealable bag.
Follow staff instructions and keep your boarding pass visible.
Tip:
Keep your essential items (passport, phone, boarding pass) easily accessible but separate from the tray items.
Customs Clearance
Upon departure or arrival, you may be subject to customs checks. Declare any cash, valuables, or goods above permitted limits. This ensures a smooth border crossing and avoids fines or confiscation.
You must declare:
Currency above the threshold set by Kazakhstan customs
Valuable items (jewellery, electronics, artwork)
Restricted goods such as alcohol, tobacco, or certain food and animal products
Tip:
Keep all receipts and documents for items you purchased abroad — they may be needed for customs verification.
Travelling with animals
Dogs, cats, birds and other small animals may travel only with prior airline approval and accompanied by an adult passenger. You must present all required veterinary certificates and documents for each country on your route.
Not sure about your visa requirement?
Entry rules for Kazakhstan vary depending on your nationality, length of stay, and travel purpose. Before your trip, check whether you need a visa or can enter visa-free.

Need help during security or immigration?
Passengers with reduced mobility, medical devices, or specific needs can request assistance at least 48 hours before departure. Our staff will help you through security, passport control, and boarding.
