On September 25, 2025, Almaty International Airport hosted an extended meeting of the Local Runway Safety Team (LRST). Almaty Airport became the first and only airport in Kazakhstan to hold an LRST meeting in the format of a practical workshop. This approach was initiated by Gozel Serikbayeva, Director of the Flight Safety Department. The event brought together representatives from the aviation sector, including executives and specialists from the airports of Almaty, Astana, and Shymkent, officials from the Civil Aviation Administration of Kazakhstan, national and international airlines, as well as flight safety experts. Goker Kose, President of Almaty International Airport, addressed the participants, emphasizing that flight safety is an absolute priority for the company. He noted that LRST meetings provide a unique opportunity to exchange experiences, jointly analyze risks, and develop solutions that directly impact the reliability and efficiency of airport operations. The meeting placed particular emphasis on practical scenario exercises and collaborative risk analysis. After the plenary session, participants were divided into working groups, where they identified problem areas, proposed solutions, assessed the probability and severity of consequences using a risk matrix, and formulated recommendations aimed at enhancing the safety of airfield operations. As the largest aviation hub in the country, Almaty International Airport continues to strengthen its position as a leading professional platform for discussing current industry challenges and promoting a culture of runway safety. The extended LRST meeting represented an important step toward systematic experience-sharing, the development of unified standards, and increasing the resilience of Kazakhstan’s entire aviation ecosystem.
